Seeing others!

One of the most powerful things we do in life is to see others, particularly to see those who often feel unseen! Senator Raphael Warnock says “you can’t serve me if you don’t see me”.

This week it has been a joy to be with Baptist Mission Australia colleagues in Cambodia, witnessing how they are authentically walking alongside others. It’s wonderful that half our team here now are Khmer people. They help us see and understand local people in deeper ways. In the Scriptures we read of Jesus seeing people – particularly those on the margins – and his heart breaking for them.

This week I’ve sat with people living with poverty, young people seizing employment training and language learning, kids learning about growing healthy food and creation care and families experiencing hope as their children living with disabilities access education, support and care. I’ve seen people smile, laugh and cry as they tell their stories and affirm the power of being seen! I’m reminded of the difference it makes when we see people as Jesus sees them.
