As we look at the world in all its brokenness and pain, it’s right to cry out “it shouldn’t be this way!”.
And then what do we do? It has been good to ponder this question over the weekend with valued partners in Perth.
I find myself crying out these words more and more as I see the pain and injustice too many people across the world and Australia face. It leads me to lament, grieve and weep in our shared human brokenness.
I could be overwhelmed if this is all I see. But then I am reminded and inspired by the reality that God isn’t finished with our broken world. God is at work, making all things new, through ordinary, loving, caring and creative people.
And so we can choose to hold on to sustaining hope and make ourselves available again to pursue “how it should be”in local communities across the globe. That’s what Jesus came to show us. The world as it was – and could become!
This week – maybe like me you will cry out again “it shouldn’t be this way” – as you look at a local or global situation – or as you feel burdened for the needs of others in a specific context.
As we cry out these words, may we all have the compassion, courage and resolve to make ourselves available to be part of the solution … joining our God in the making of all things new! The way things should be!
